  • Madagascar Surf Resort (map)

The Trip

At the beginning of July 2019, Swell Yoga will be taking over the Madagascar Surf Lodge for 11 days of surf, yoga and adventure, Madagascar style!

Think perfect peeling waves for all levels of ability. Think sunrise yoga, sunset cocktails, and long dreamy days of total chill.

The Madagascar Surf Resort

The Resort is located on the remote beach village of Befasy, a few hours boat ride from Toliara, or the “City of the Sun”.

We have a large communal restaurant-bar-chill out area perched on top of a hill, providing breathtaking 360-degree views of the beach, the bush and the multiple surf breaks on the outer reef.

The resort accommodates surfers and non surfers, and can be also a perfect getaway for families and couples.

The accommodation at Madagascar Surf Resort is made up of private beachfront bungalows which all have:

· Ocean views · Twin bed + extra bed available · Private en-suite bathroom

· Service bar & bar snacks menu · Private terrace · Deck chairs & hammocks

The trip includes:

  • Accommodation for 12 nights

  • 3 delicious healthy meals a day cooked with fresh local organic produce

  • Unlimited drinking water, tea and coffee

The most challenging part of a holiday in an island paradise is getting there – but often the journey is as important as the destination (right?)!

The flying option has become much cheaper recently as Madagascar Air lowered the cost of their internal flights with a new operator called Tsaradia.

There are two main travel options depending on cost and whether you want to explore Madagascar. If you have a few days to spare and want to save some money, take the backpacker route where we journey across Madagascar overland in a private car from Antananarivo to the closest city to the surf camp (Toliara). The journey takes 2 days and we will stop to explore Madagascar on the way, staying overnight in the town of Fianarantsoa. The second option, for anyone short on time, is to fly direct to Toliara, though this will cost more. The options are detailed below.

Fly Direct (28/06/19 - 12/07/19)

  1. Return flight from London to Antananarivo = c. £700

  2. Return flight from Antananarivo to Toliara = c.£180 (find flights at

  3. Return ferry from Toliara to the resort = £50

Total cost of the flying route is around £930

Backpacker Route (from 27/06/19 - 14/07/19)

  1. Flight from London to Antananarivo = c.£650 (there is a Kenya Airways flight leaving London on Thursday 27th June and returning on Saturday 13th July)

  2. Private driver from Antananarivo to the south coast (driving down on 28th and 29th and returning on 12th and 13th July)= £30 per person each way

  3. Hotel for overnight stay in Fianarantsoa = £15 a night

  4. Boat ferry from Toliara to the resort = £25 each way

Total cost of the backpacker route is around £790 return

The beauty of working so hard to get somewhere is the freedom to surf alone – for this remote spot, that really does mean just you and your mates in the water!
